Trivia & Goofs

Last Man Standing

  • The ship that Tony is serving on, the USS Seahawk, is a fictional aircraft carrier that was frequently featured on another Donald Bellisario show, JAG.
  • One of the books on McGee's desk is PCs for Dummies.
  • Abby says that 126 days have passed since Tony, McGee and Ziva have been gone. This episode aired 126 days after Judgment Day, the last episode of the previous season, where the 'team' was disbanded.

Agent Afloat

  • The Grumman C-2A which was shown bringing Gibbs and Ziva to the carrier was from the Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 30 (VRC-30) whose job is to move cargo, mail and passengers to and from carriers in the Pacific Fleet.
  • McGee says, "All I had to do was [...] align the virtual images with their true counterparts." This makes no sense. In the unlikely event that McGee was attempting to read data from a disk image, you don't align images, you mount them. "Counterpart" is not a technical term used in this context.
  • When McGee is working on Evans' computer, he says "Extended firewalls, two mirrored hard drives... whatever Lieutenant Evans was into, he worked hard to cover up." A firewall is not typically used to conceal data from someone who has access to the computer the data is on; it is used to prevent unauthorized access over a network such as the Internet. You shouldn't use multiple firewalls on a PC. (McGee specified firewalls, plural.) "Extended Firewall" is a term I have never heard before. Mirrored hard drives are used for redundancy, not obfuscation.
  • The USS Seahawk is a fictional ship, which previously appeared on NCIS' parent series JAG. The images used are taken from different real aircraft carriers. USS John C Stennis (CVN-74) can been seen when Tony, Ziva & Gibbs arrive at the Seahawk. The emblem of USS Enterprise (CVN-65) is used.

Capitol Offense

  • This is the first episode where NCIS gets a credit on the news, as opposed to before when they rarely get a credit.
  • Senator Kiley's house is the same set used as Director Shepard's house in seasons four and five.

Heartland

  • The role of Young Gibbs in the flashbacks is played by Mark Harmon's son Sean Harmon.
  • The rules that Gibbs makes is in homage of his late Wife Shannon, who whilst being acquainted with Gibbs said that "Rule number one is never date a lumberjack" and that she tries to have a rule for everything.
  • Gibbs' late wife, Shannon, lived in Stillwater, Gibb's home town. They met each other on the platform of the train station.
  • The orientation between people calling Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs "Gibbs" is from his late wife, Shannon.

Nine Lives

  • The FBI agent who opens the door at the safe house has a bloody nose before Gibbs slams the door into his face. The blood is clearly visible.
  • At the beginning of the episode, Ziva addresses the person over the phone in Hebrew as a male, calling him an ass. However, the voice on the other end is clearly than of a female.
  • At the beginning of the episode, Tony is holding his magazine upside down.

Murder 2.0

  • The picture of the clock shown in the first video is taken out of very famous painting by artist Salvador Dalí called The Persistence of Memory.
  • When Abby checks Gibbs cell phone for a bomb, she opens the phone and it falls into parts in her hands. No cell phone can be disassembled in seconds.
  • When McGee runs into Abby's lab to check on her and fall on the floor, we see his shoes glued on the ground. As he was running, his shoes shouldn't be aligned, they were glued as if he was standing still, not running.
  • When McGee finds the camera on the cart, he holds his iPhone where the video is shown. On the iPhone (thanks to HD) we can see the IP address of the website, which reads 192.168.1.1 (a non-routable local only IP address). Furthermore when he passes his hand in front of the camera, the video immediately shows it, this is really unlikely because the video has to go all the way through the internet and back to the cell so there should be at least some delay.
  • When McGee traces the VoIP phone call, we see a world map with ip addresses but those are not valid because they contain numbers higher than 255. (Ipv4 addresses consists of 4 numbers between 0 and 255 separated by full stops)
  • "Primitus victor" doesn't mean "first victim", it means "first victor", or "winner".
  • Tony goes up to collect Gibbs' Meritorious Service Award. In the season three episode, Model Behavior, it is revealed that Gibbs never attends awards ceremonies, but Tony collects on his behalf and stores the medals in his desk drawer.
  • McGee says, "Abby, this isn't a Flash codec...it's H.264!" Actually, Flash Player does support H.264 and has been able to for about a year. Additionally, H.264 is not a codec that is specific to streaming and McGee would not have been able to determine that the video was live using this information.

Collateral Damage

  • The guard is whistling Beautiful Dreamer as he steps out of the bathroom just before being shot.
  • Rule #13: Never involve lawyers.
  • A picture of NCIS agent Paula Cassidy is shown on the wall of the officer who died in the line of duty. Paula Cassidy was killed in the episode Grace Period (Season 4, episode 19).

Cloak

  • In the scene between Ducky, Gibbs and Tony taking place in autopsy you can repeatedly see the schematics of CERN's particle accelerators on a plasma screen in the background. CERN is the European center for nuclear research based on the border between Switzerland and France. They made global headlines in fall 2008 when their lately installed particle-accelerator LHC (Large Hadron Collider), the largest and most complex machine built by mankind, was successfully tested for the first time.
  • Both Tony and McGee hit their nose when trying to open the door to Abby's Science lab, but how can one hit on their nose when the door opens out, pulls instead of pushes?
  • Tony tells Ziva about a drinking game which is initiated by a "coin check", where the person carrying the coin of the lowest ranking officer has to buy. This is a variation of the standard rules of the game, in which one person calls for a "coin check", and all others must show their own coins immediately. Anyone not carrying a coin, or not displaying it quickly enough or otherwise improperly carried (coins on belt buckles, etc. do not count), must then buy drinks for everyone.
  • Agent Michelle Lee supposedly has a daughter whom she had in high school.
  • The code to get onto the base is "7-5-3-0-9" the last 5 digits of Jenny's number from the hit song by Tommy Tutone. "Jenny, I've got your number I need to make you mine Jenny, don't change your number 8-6-7-5-3-0-9-e-ine."

Dagger

  • Supposedly Michelle's daughter has been held as a hostage for eight months, but the marks she made with ketchup counting the days only accounts for a little over two months (65 slashes). Either she had been moved before, had another place she was making her slash marks, or she didn't begin counting immediately.

Road Kill

  • The analysis of the silver paint on the victims car by Abby is wrong. Xylene and MEK are volatile solvents used in the application of the basecoat. They totally evaporate in the baking process. Titanium dioxide is a white pigment which is THE most common pigment in paint. If it was a silver car the aluminium pigments would have made up the majority of pigment in the color and TiO2 would have been in trace amounts to allow for after market color matching.
  • McGee says, "By pinging the site's DNS cache, we can see what computer last logged in to Jodi's page." Ping is typically used to test connectivity and is not relevant in this context. One cannot view access logs using a DNS cache - it has nothing to do with finding out who accessed a website. Actual server access logs are not publicly accessible and would likely be very difficult to obtain.
  • When Gibbs holds up the photo of Petty Officer Collins, his bandaged finger sticks out. But the close-up of the photo shows all four fingers around the edge of the photo, and no bandage around the finger.

Silent Night

At the end of the program we have Gibbs calling his father to wish him Merry Christmas. We hear the voice of Ralph Waite (not credited) responding to his son's call.

Broken Bird

  • Gibbs uses the quote "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." and Ziva recognized it as Edmund Burke. Interestingly, there is no known records of Burke actually using these words, the quote may be based on a paraphrase of some of Burke's ideas, but he is not known to have ever declared them in such a manner in any of his writings. It may have been adapted from these lines of Burke's in his Thoughts on the Cause of Present Discontents (1770): "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."
  • When Ducky is listing the many different historical rulers of Afghanistan, he omits the Macedonian King Alexander the Great and his successors in the region, the Seleucid Dynasty, who controlled the country from the 320s BCE to 10 CE. For someone with a classical education, this seems a very strange omission.

Love & War

  • According to McGee's calculation he was born in 1977 and is now 31 years old.
  • In the Captain's Lab, a shot of Ziva & Tony shows a dummy in the background. This dummy appears to be identical to the dummy that was on the road in the opening teaser. So much so that I thought it was an indication of who the guilty party might be. The only difference is the clothing.
  • McGee says he was able to use Jennings' emails to ID the NIC address on the recipient's computer. The generally accepted term is MAC address, not NIC address. It is not possible to determine the MAC address of a NIC on the recipient's computer from an email. Could McGee have been confused and meant IP address? This does not sound like an error he would make.
  • At the start of the episode, Tony is struggling with a Fatal Exception 0E error, also known as a BSOD. The error flashes and makes noise, which is atypical of Fatal Exception errors. McGee is able to resolve the error by pressing the "F Mode" key, which is used for controlling the behaviour of function keys on Tony's Logitech Media Keyboard and would not have any effect on a Fatal Exception error. Furthermore, McGee is looking at the left screen when he presses the key when the error is showing on the right flat screen.

Deliverance

  • The gang name was the PCs. Maggie, the Social Worker looking after the kids and legal guardian to many, came to them under the 'Vista program'. Vista is the name of the current windows PC operating system.
  • Gibbs military services number was: 817657329.

Bounce

  • Gibbs Rules: Rule #38 - Your case, your lead.
  • In this episode Tony mentions to Ducky that he won't be going back to Arizona any time soon, but in the next episode "South By Southwest", the team travels to Arizona during a murder case.

South by Southwest

  • At the beginning of the episode, when DiNozzo is on the phone trying to reach Mr. Hubbard (his great-uncle's solicitor), the phone he is holding switches between his cell and his desk phone between shots.
  • DiNozzo's mother's maiden name is Paddington.
  • The helicopter that was used at the end of the episode was a Eurocopter AStar 350 B2 (N67TV) and is currently used by Helinet Aviation.

  • SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION: TIGER+SARAH PALIN + FAMILY GUY = TRUE BLOOD

Now that the scandal is slowly blowing over, Tiger Woods is going to make a public apology for his recent tomfoolery tomorrow on live TV.  Seth Macfarlane toyed with the idea of mocking Tiger on Family Guy but decided to focus his attention on someone who, some might say, is susceptible to a wisp of innocent repartee with a recent episode depicting a girl with down's syndrome who goes on a date with Chris Griffin. Although the punc...
